Our history

Chiltern was founded by three ex-tax inspectors in 1982.

The firm quickly became known as the best place to go for high quality tax advice for accountants and other professionals.

Throughout the ‘90s we enjoyed solid organic growth and adopted a strong acquisitional strategy to extend our service range for a wider client base. Delivering tax advice and a range of complementary services, we expanded our capabilities to meet the needs of companies, private clients and the public sector.

On 12th October 2007 Chiltern became part of BDO Stoy Hayward in a move that will create one of the most powerful and comprehensive tax offerings in the UK today.

BDO Stoy Hayward is part of the world's fifth largest accounting organisation and has 16 offices throughout the UK. It is currently Accountancy Age's 'Global Firm of the Year' and is consistently acclaimed as a top UK employer. As a firm it has many synergies with Chiltern in terms of its high quality tax advice, strong client focus and compelling employment proposition.

For Chiltern, the move brings enhancements in terms of information systems, technical solutions, resource, access to a broader range of specialist services such as corporate finance, and the strongest international network outside the Big Four firms. We know you will benefit from this in the future.
